William Gurdon Saltonstall Papers, 1840-1882.

Collection includes 15 diaries kept by William Gurdon Saltonstall between 1831 and 1889 along with family correspondence. Saltonstall's family included his mother, Caroline Saunders Saltonstall, his brother Henry, and his sisters, Elizabeth and Catherine P. Saltonstall. The estate papers for Caroline Saunders Saltonstall are included in this collection. Letters written during the Civil War, between the years 1863 and 1865, can be found in this collection along with a letterbook kept by Saltonstall in 1863 while serving on the U. S. S. Commodore Hull. A folder of miscellaneous documents includes genealogical information about the Cabot family and a listing of exports shipped from Manila in U. S. ships in 1851 pertaining to the exportation of hemp and sugar.
